Polish technology on Mars

Curiosity rover is searching for traces of life on the Red Planet thanks to Polish engineers working in a town near Warsaw!

Vigo Systems is a company located in Ożarów Mazowiecki that specialises in the production of infrared radiation detectors. For several years it has been NASA’s preferred supplier. The US space agency used the sensors made by the Polish company in its construction of a laser spectrometer, installed in the Curiosity rover, which has been exploring Mars surface since August 2012. The device analyses samples of Martian atmosphere with an infrared laser, and then analyses its spectrum within various wave ranges. Information about the ratios of methane, water and carbon dioxide in the planet’s atmosphere will enable scientists to conclude if there was life on Mars.
